Genesis 1:26-27
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
It is incredible to think that human beings, both male and female, have been created in the image and likeness of God. This truth reminds us that in our original creation, there was no stain, no sin, but perfection and holiness. We were designed to reflect the character of God—His justice, His love, and His wisdom.
But we were not only created with dignity, but also with a mission. God entrusted us with dominion over all living beings, which implies a deep responsibility: we are called to be faithful stewards of His creation. This dominion is not for exploitation, but for caring, preserving, and lovingly managing what He has placed under our responsibility.
Unfortunately, sin entered the world and damaged that perfect creation. The image of God in us was distorted, though not destroyed. However, God’s grace continues to work. He calls us and equips us to restore that lost image through Christ.
That is why we must remember this truth: we were created by God with an eternal purpose. We are not an accident or a coincidence. We are the work of His hands, bearers of His image, called to live with purpose, with dignity, and with authority over creation, under His sovereignty.
Let us pray:
Beloved God, we thank You for Your infinite love for us. Thank you for creating us in Your image and likeness. Thank you for giving our lives purpose. Thank you, we are not an accident or a mistake. Help us restore the lost image in You and be good stewards of Your creation.
