Genesis 1:1-2

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Have you ever stopped to think that God created everything out of nothing? As human beings, we can build, design, or manufacture things, but we always start with something that already exists. In contrast, God, in His infinite power and wisdom, created the universe without any preexisting material, simply by His word and will.

This teaches us a profound truth: our lives are not the result of chance, but of intentional design. God didn’t improvise; He planned every detail of creation, from the vastness of the cosmos to the innermost parts of our being. And He did it out of love.

Can you see His tenderness reflected in the colors of the sunset? His creativity with the flavors of fruit? His majesty in the mountains and the power of the sea? Every element of creation is a gift that testifies to God’s care and purpose. Everything was made for you and me to enjoy—and so that we might recognize in it a Creator who loves us and has great plans for our lives.

This passage also shows us that the Spirit of God was present from the very beginning, actively moving over the waters. In the same way, His Spirit moves over our lives today—bringing order where there is chaos, light where there is darkness, and purpose where there is emptiness.

Let us pray:

Lord, we thank You for Your creation. Thank you for Your great love for us. Help us to value and care for what You have made with such intention. May we live with an awareness of Your presence and loving purpose in every detail of our lives.
